John Piper abominates this teaching. I'm with John. Poverty--as disastrous as it is--doesn't warrant abandoning the only hope of the gospel with the false hope of 'prosperity.'
A contemplation of all things church... and a desire for an increasingly pure church reformed by the word of God.

Pastor Thabiti,
in Brazil, evangelicals have been very, very much influenced by the theology of prosperity (prosperity gospel). :(
Blessings,
Pastor Juan
This type of exploitation of people is so heartbreaking. It disgusts me to see God's Word used to manipulate people. God help us.
On another note I honestly believed that if the Church functioned in the manner it did in Acts 2:42-47 and headed passages like Matthew 25:31-46, James 2:14-17, and 1 John 3:16-19 peoples Spiritual and physical needs could be meet. The physical being one of the main reasons heresy like to continue to thrive and is embraced. We have to respond in truth and in action as John puts it in 1 John 3. I can't tell you that you're wrong and at the same time leave you destitute and hungry. Though its so hard when the Church really as communal as it used to be. Now everything is so personal and individualistic when it comes to the the modern Christian experience how are we supposed to get people to come together in such manner and care so deeply for one another? Perhaps by touching on some of the implications of the Gospel? (1 John 3:16-17 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?" ) Just some thoughts that popped into my head in light of these to videos. Peace.
